About us

Voxcetera was formed in 2009 by Tim Ellerby, Jane Hopkins, Richard Platt and Dawn Sherley-Dale, and has established itself as a thriving chamber choir. Over the years since, highlights have included two tours to Germany, joint concerts with the Rudsambee Company of Singers in Edinburgh and the Dublin Bach Singers, and an appearance on the 2013 Christmas Special of BBC’s Holby City. In March 2014, Voxcetera joined the Northern Lights Symphony Orchestra for a sell-out performance of Mozart’s Requiem. We joined them again in April 2015 for our first concert in St Martin-in-the-Fields.

We are a group of dynamic and talented singers who had many years’ experience in other choirs before forming our own chamber group. Under the direction of conductor Jane Hopkins, we are typically a choir of 12 to 18 voices, performing a cappella or with accompaniment. Our repertoire includes both religious and secular works from the 13th century to the present day. Most recently, we have sung modern interpretations of well-known folk songs and fables, and repertoire by Poulenc based in both the sacred and folk traditions. We bring the same passion and care to our performances whether we are singing unusual, less-known repertoire or well-loved works by Fauré, Britten and Haydn.

The group has given many concerts primarily in London but also further afield. A trip to Germany in May 2011 was the first tour as Voxcetera and the group returned there again in 2013, before concerts in Edinburgh in 2014 and Dublin in 2015. In April 2015 Voxcetera made its first appearance at St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square, performing the Vivaldi Gloria. Previous concerts have included the renowned music venue St Sepulchre Without Newgate in Holborn, as well as concerts in Derbyshire, Highgate, Hampstead, Tufnell Park and Crouch End. In July 2011 the group made its debut singing at the South Bank Centre as part of the Festival of Britain 60th anniversary celebrations.
